  • A dead heat happens when 2 or more competitors finish at exactly the same time or with exactly the same result.
  • In horse and greyhound racing, a dead heat occurs when 2 or more runners cannot be separated by the Judge, even after consulting the photo finish.
  • A dead heat can also apply to other sports when 2 teams or competitors finish level with each other and no odds were offered for a tie.
  • Example: Two 2 batsmen finishing with the same number of runs is a dead heat for the top batsman market.

How to calculate my bet winnings if there's a dead heat?

  • To calculate your bet, simply divide the stake by the number of selections involved in the dead heat.
  • Example: You bet £10.00 on Horse A at odds of 10/1 (potential winnings of £110).
  • Your selection is in a dead heat with Horse B, with both finishing in joint first (1st) place.
  • You receive half of your stake at the original price. Therefore, £5.00 at 10/1 = £55.00 total winnings
