UK & Irish Greyhound Racing: General Rules

Bet Acceptance and Settlement

1. Bets are accepted for all BAGS (Bookmakers Afternoon Greyhound Service) meetings, GBGB (Greyhound Board of Great Britain) and IGB (Irish Greyhound Board) meetings at tracks listed below, races covered live on terrestrial TV or Sky Sports and for all UK mainland and Irish open races at other tracks where runners are published in the Racing Post.

Bets can also be accepted for meetings outside the UK and Ireland that are covered by a full service on SIS and where we specifically advertise acceptance or where betting opportunities are directly available at www.williamhill.com. Bets are settled on the official result called by the judge and any subsequent amendments will be ignored for settlement purposes.

Belle Vue, Monmore, Shawfield

Crayford, Newcastle, Sheffield

Nottingham, Sunderland

Perry Barr, Swindon, Hove

Poole, Kinsley

Romford, Yarmouth

2. Unless a price is requested, all bets on greyhound racing are settled at starting price returns. The starting price (SP) is the price available at the 'off' of the race. Where a William Hill SP is returned this will take precedence over any other declared SP and will be used to settle bets where no price is requested. Where no SP is returned and no price is requested settlement of bets will be based on the final show of betting transmitted by our service provider. Where no betting shows are transmitted greyhound bets will be void.

Bets on greyhound racing are accepted on either trap numbers or on named greyhounds.  If a greyhound is withdrawn from a race and replaced by a reserve, bets placed on that trap number will stand and bets placed on the named greyhound that is withdrawn will be void.

Example: if Myella Betty is withdrawn from trap 1 and is replaced by the reserve greyhound Powerful Girl: -

a) Bets placed on trap 1 and the named greyhound Powerful Girl will stand.
b) Bets placed on the named greyhound Myella Betty will be void.

Bets placed on trap numbers for Australian greyhounds are settled on the trap that the greyhound starts the race from, not the number that it wears during the race.  This is because a reserve greyhound will wear either number 9 or 10 regardless of which trap it runs from.

Example: if Showtime Sally is withdrawn from trap 7 and is replaced by the reserve greyhound Meehan Rosie, who is also shown as running from 7: -

a) Bets placed on trap 7 will stand even if Meehan Rosie wears number 9 or number 10 during the race.
b) Bets placed on the named greyhound Showtime Sally will be void.

Forecast Betting

1. a. A forecast requires you to pick the first and second in the correct order. Forecasts are accepted in greyhound races of 3 or more runners.
b. Bets are settled as straight forecasts in accordance with the computerised starting price forecast returns. Where a William Hill SP is returned this will take precedence over any other declared SP and the forecast dividend will be calculated on the final show of betting. Where no SP is returned the forecast dividend will be based on the final show of betting broadcast by our service provider.

c. Unnamed first favourites are accepted in forecast bets. Where a joint or co-favourite is returned, we will divide your stake equally. Unnamed second and third favourites are not accepted and if taken in error the forecast will be void.

2. We accept forecast doubles, trebles, accumulators, Yankees and Lucky 15s.

3. Should a NON RUNNER be selected in a forecast, the bet will be settled as a win single on the remaining selection. In reversed or combination bets each forecast is treated separately.

4. Instructions for a selection 'WITH THE FIELD' or a selection 'AGAINST THE FIELD' mean in both cases that the selection is required to win. Instructions 'THE FIELD WITH' a selection or 'THE FIELD AGAINST' a selection mean in both cases that the selection is required to be second.

Straight Tricast Betting

Predict three greyhounds to finish first, second and third in the correct order for a given race.

  1. Tricasts are accepted on races or six or more runners, unless indicated otherwise

  2. Bets will be settled at the official tricast dividend sometimes denoted as TC or CTC.

  3. If one of the selected greyhounds is withdrawn from the race at any time, bets placed on this market will be settled as a straight forecast on the remaining greyhounds.

    • If two of the selected greyhounds are withdrawn from the race at any time, bets placed on this market will be settled as an SP win single on the remaining greyhound.

    • If all selected greyhounds are withdrawn from the race, bets placed on this market will be void.

  4. If one or more withdrawn greyhounds reduce the number of runners in the given race to five or fewer, bets placed this market will be settled as a forecast on the selections nominated to finish first and second.

  5. If there is a dead heat for first, second or third place, a separate dividend will be declared for each winning tricast combination.

  6. If only two greyhounds finish the given race, bets placed on this market will be settled as a straight forecast on the selections nominated to finish first and second. All other tricast bets will have lost.

    • If only one greyhound finishes the given race, bets placed on this market will be settled as an SP win single on the selection nominated to finish first. All other tricast bets will have lost.

  7. If a race is abandoned or declared void bets placed on greyhounds in that race will be void.

    • Adjustments to settlement will not be made for amended results or adjudications made by governing bodies after the weigh-in when the official result is declared.

Combination Tricast

Predict three or more greyhounds to finish first, second and third in any order for a given race.

  1. Tricasts are accepted on races or six or more runners, unless indicated otherwise

  2. Bets will be settled at the official tricast dividend sometimes denoted as TC or CTC.

  3. Combination tricast bets are made up equal stakes to cover the number of possible outcomes, meaning that a £2 combination forecast on three runners has a total stake of £12 etc.Image

  4. If one or more of the selected greyhounds are withdrawn from the race at any time, and at least three selections remain, bets placed on this market will be broken down into separate bets being settled as separate tricasts and forecasts. If only two selections remain, bets placed on this market will be broken down into separate bets being settled as separate forecasts and SP win singles. Example:-

    • A £2 combination tricast with a total stake of £12 is placed on Greyhound A, B and C before C is withdrawn from the race. The bet will be settled as: -

    • A|B|C forecast A|B A|C|B forecast A|B B|A|C forecast B|A

      B|C|A forecast B|A C|A|B forecast A|B C|B|A forecast B|A

    • If all selected greyhounds are withdrawn from the race, bets placed on this market will be void.

  5. If one or more withdrawn greyhounds reduce the number of runners in the given race to five or fewer, bets placed this market will be settled as a combination forecast.

  6. If there is a dead heat for first, second or third place, a separate dividend will be declared for each winning tricast combination.

  7. If only two greyhounds finish the given race, bets placed this market will be settled as a forecast on the selections nominated to finish first and second in each tricast combination. All tricast combinations that do not nominate the greyhounds finishing first and second in the correct order will have lost.

    • If only one greyhound finishes the given race, bets placed on this market will be settled as an SP win single on the selection nominated to finish first in each tricast combination.

  8. If a race is abandoned or declared void bets placed on greyhounds in that race will be void.

    • Adjustments to settlement will not be made for amended results or adjudications made by governing bodies after the weigh-in when the official result is declared.

Winning Distances

Predict the range that contains the aggregate number of official winning distances in lengths at the specified meeting.

The official winning distances in lengths are calculated as follows:   Dead Heat = 0 | Short head = 0.1 lengths | Head = 0.2 lengths | Neck = 0.3 lengths | 1/4 length = 0.25 lengths |½ length = 0.5 lengths | ¾ length = 0.75 lengths

1.     Bets are accepted for greyhound racing held under the rules BAGS, GBGB and IGB and are settled on the official result.

2.     Bets are accepted at the advertised special price. All odds are subject to fluctuation and bets placed will be settled at the price at the time the bet was confirmed.

3.     The officially declared winning distance is calculated between the first two greyhounds past the post that have completed the race having followed the correct course.

4.     The maximum winning distance per race is: 10 lengths for each race.

5.     Void races will be awarded 2 lengths.

6.     If three or more races are abandoned or made void at the selected meeting and the over selection in the market has been won, bets placed on that selection in this market will have already won and will be settled as winners. Bets placed on other selections in this market will have already lost.

7.    If three or more races are abandoned or made void at the selected meeting and the over selection in the market has not been won, bets placed on this market will be void.

8.    Adjustments to settlement will not be made for amended results or adjudications made by governing bodies after the weigh-in when the official result is declared.

Favourite Betting

1. The favourite is the greyhound that is returned at the shortest odds. Bets nominating the favourite are accepted in greyhound races at starting price only. Where a William Hill SP is returned this will take precedence over any other declared SP and the favourite will be determined by the final show of betting. Where a bet is placed on an unnamed favourite in a race where no starting prices are returned please refer to Rule 1.

2. a. Where you nominate the favourite and two or more runners start at the shortest odds, then your stake is divided equally over the joint or co-favourites created. For example, where two are returned at the shortest odds, then these two are joint first and second favourites and the next shortest price runner is the third favourite.
b. Stakes will be returned on single favourite bets where the return, regardless of the result, is either the same or less than the original outlay. For example, Evs joint favourites, 3/1 co-favourite of four etc. Where this situation occurs with joint or co-favourites in an accumulative bet the selection will be treated as a non runner.

3. We accept greyhound bets for first favourites only. Unnamed second and third favourites are not accepted and where taken in error such bets will be made void.

William Hill Prices

1. William Hill prices are offered on greyhound racing until the off of each race.

2. Prices for all races and events are subject to fluctuation.

3. If you wish to bet at William Hill prices you must stipulate this when placing your bet.

4. Should a greyhound be withdrawn or be a non runner, all bets on that selection will be void with bets on the remaining runners in the race being settled at S.P. This is also applicable if a reserve runner is added to the race. Where an Antepost price has been taken, withdrawn greyhounds will be treated as losers.

5. Each way bets at William Hill prices are governed by our SP place betting terms and determined by the number of actual starters, and not by the number of declared runners when the price is laid.

6. We accept bets in races of 2 or more runners for named and numbered selections at current show prices as transmitted by our service provider or a special William Hill service and not from any other broadcast source. Where you take a price or early bird price on a selection, it will apply to that selection in all win and each way bets throughout your bet.

Trap Challenge

1. a. For the Trap Challenge: predict the trap that will win the most races at one selected meeting, or alternatively at two selected meetings combined.
b.
Where BAGS or TV races form only part of a meeting bets will be based on the BAGS/TV races only. Likewise the same principle will apply if we advertise that bets are based on a specific number of races. Bets are unaffected by reserves, vacant traps, void races or meetings abandoned once they have started. Where no race(s) take place after a bet is struck the bet is void.

2. In the event of one meeting not starting all bets containing this meeting are void.

3. If a race finishes as a dead heat each trap will receive a "half win" (3 way dead heat "one third win" etc). Likewise, points will be divided on the same basis. A selection that dead heats for first will be awarded 2.5 points.

4. If two or more traps record the same number of wins/points, dead heat rules apply.

5. Unless betting in-play is available any bet accepted after the no more bets time for the first race will be void win or lose.

Combined Trap Challenge – Money Back No Winners

1a. For the combined Trap Challenge: predict the trap that will win the most races at any two selected meetings combined.

b. The offer doesn’t cover single Trap Challenge’s.

2. If your Trap doesn’t have any winners, we will refund your stake.

3. A minimum of 20 races must take place for the offer to be valid.

4. If a race finishes as a dead heat each trap will receive a "half win" (3 way dead heat "one third win" etc). Likewise, points will be divided on the same basis.

  • A selection that dead heats for first will be awarded 0.5 points.

5. We reserve the right to withdraw this offer at any time.

Re-runs

1. Where a race has been declared a no-race and is re-run, all bets will stand for the greyhounds that take part in the re-run but single bets may be cancelled by mutual agreement. The prices returned on the re-run will govern the settlement. William Hill prices laid on a no-race will stand for the re-run race unless there is a non runner, in which case all bets will be settled at SP. Bets may be cancelled by mutual agreement prior to the market being re-formed. A re-run greyhound race is taken in the order in which it was originally placed in the programme, irrespective of the time at which it was re-run.

2. Where a race has been declared a no-race and is not re-run, ALL bets for that race will be made void and will not count for any additional race, (e.g. a reserve race).

Top Trainer

1. Predict the trainer who trains the greatest number of winners at the meeting.

2. If two or more trainers train the same number of winners then the result will be based on the greatest number of seconds and then thirds. If still equal bets will be void, unless there are more than two trainers involved in the market, in which case dead heat rules will apply.

3. If two or more greyhounds attached to the same trainer are non runners all bets are void.

Each Way Betting

1. An each way bet consists of two stakes, one for the win part of the bet and one for the place part. If your selection finishes first both the win and place bet is successful. Bets are settled to win unless each way is clearly stated. The place part of each way bets on greyhound racing is settled as per the following place terms. Where special William Hill place terms are advertised they will take precedence over the Industry Standard place terms. Any bet placed prior to the introduction of special William Hill place terms will be settled at the place terms advertised at the time the bet was struck.

Where there are an insufficient number of finishers for the place terms advertised, only those runners officially placed will be treated as successful selections and bets on non-finishers will be lost.

2. For the purpose of calculation, each way doubles, trebles, etc. are settled as two distinct bets, i.e. win on to win and place on to place. Greyhound Racing bets will be settled as equally divided if this is clearly included in the instructions. An equally divided bet is where the total return from the first leg of the bet is divided into two equal parts and then invested as a win and place stake on the next leg. Equally divided bets are not available on-line.

3. If you place a bet each way for a race or event that is win only, the total stake will be invested for a win.

4. Each way bets are accepted on unnamed favourites.
