What is Placepot betting and how do I place one?

A Placepot bet requires you to pick at least 1 selection to place in all of the first 6 races at a particular meeting.

If one or more of your selections fails to place, the bet will be a loser.

How do I put on a Placepot bet?

  • Placepot betting is available from the 'Tote' tab of the Horse Racing page.
  • On scrolling down the page, you will see the list of meetings for the day and the option to select a Placepot.
  • You will then be given the option to choose selections in each of the 6 races.
  • Once done, you can enter your unit stake per line.

Why does it say the number of lines in my bet is more than 1?

  • In a Placepot, you are entitled to choose more than one horse from each race.
  • However, you will have to pay for every line within the bet.
  • To work out the total number of lines in the bet, you multiply the number of selections in each race.
  • Example: If you choose 3 selections in Race 1, 1 selection in Races 2-5 and 2 selections in Race 6, the total number of lines in the bet would be: 3 * 1 * 1 * 1 * 1 * 2 = 6
  • Therefore, to pay for the bet you would need to pay 6 times the unit stake of the bet.
  • If this was £1, your overall stake would be £6.

What is the minimum stake?

  • The minimum overall stake for a Placepot bet must be at least £1.
  • If there's only 1 line in the bet, the unit stake must be £1.
  • If there are 10 lines in a Placepot, the unit stake can be as low as £0.10.

What time does Placepot betting become available on site?

  • Placepots usually become available on the site in the latter stages of the morning, typically after 10 AM.

Why are there no odds for a Placepot bet?

  • There are no odds for a Placepot bet as this is a pool bet.
  • Therefore, all of the money wagered is placed in to a central pool.
  • A percentage is then deducted and the remaining amount is divided equally between the numbers of winning tickets.
  • This then creates a winning dividend to a £1 unit stake.
    • Example 1: If the winning dividend is £25 and you have 2 winning lines of £2.50 unit stake, you win £62.50 (25 * 2.5 = £62.50)
    • Example 2: If the winning dividend is £50 and you have 3 winning lines at £0.20 unit stake you win £30. (£50 * 0.20 * 3 = £30)

Why does my betslip show all selections either won or placed, but I have no returns?

  • A Placepot bet makes use of the standard place terms for any given horse race (see below).
  • However, in a particular race, if the selection finishes 3rd in a race involving 5 runners, it will be marked as 'Placed' for the settlement of other Tote betting markets.
  • For Placepot bets, this will be a losing selection and therefore the bet will be settled with no returns.

Place Terms

One of my selections in my Placepot is a non-runner, what happens to my bet?

  • In the event of a non-runner in a Placepot bet, the selection for that race will default to the favourite.
  • If there are joint or co-favourites, the selection will go on the selection wearing the lowest number.
