Sports Guide: Golf
Golf has many unique terms that can be confusing.
We've put together some basic information you'll need to know and understand to make your golf betting experience enjoyable.
Golf's scoring system is different than that of most sports.
Here, winning is determined by the lowest/fewest number of shots/strokes taken in an individual hole or round.
Each course has a designated number, known as par. It represents the number of strokes required in an individual hole and can be either of these: par-3, par-4 or par-5
Here's some of the scoring terminologies:
- Ace/Hole-In-One: When a golfer completes a hole in one stroke.
- Albatross/Double Eagle: When a golfer completes a par-5 hole in three less strokes.
- Eagle: When a golfer completes a hole in two less strokes than required.
- Birdie: When a golfer completes a hole in one less stroke than required.
- Bogey: When a golfer completes a hole in one more stroke than required.
- Double Bogey: When a golfer completes a hole in two more strokes than required.
- Triple Bogey: When a golfer completes a hole in three more strokes than required.
How to check a player's score?
Here's how you can check on your favourite player's performance on a specific tournament:
Step 1: Go to a golf tournament leaderboard page (just a sample page for your reference here).
Step 2: Search for a specific player and click on the name.
Step 3: You'll be directed to the player's tournament scorecard and profile.
How does Dead Heat work in golf?
A Dead Heat happens when two or more players end up tied for a position.
This scenario frequently occurs in golf as players often finish tied for places.
The application of this rule depends on the number of players tied and the number of places paid.
As a general betting rule, a player is deemed to have played in a tournament or a specific round once they've teed off.
If a player withdraws, retires or is disqualified after having teed off, all bets placed will stand.
