Retail: Fair Deal Rules

Date updated: 13th of December 2023

Version number: 2023/1.0

1. GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. Introduction

a. These William Hill Fair Deal Rules (the “Fair Deal Rules”) detail the terms under which bets are accepted in our Licensed Betting Offices (LBOs).

  • It is your responsibility to ensure that you are familiar with these Fair Deal Rules.
  • By placing a bet at the counter, on a gaming machine or on our self-service sports betting terminals you accept these Fair Deal Rules applying to your bet (including any applicable daily or maximum payout limits detailed in section 3 – Maximum Payout Limits).

b. If you place a bet with us then you are betting a sum of money, known as a stake, on the outcome of a particular event or series of events.

  • Unless you have placed a Tote bet or a horse or greyhound bet at starting price (SP) the outcome will have predetermined odds which will be automatically applied to your bet.
  • If the bet is accepted by us in accordance with these Fair Deal Rules and the outcome occurs, then the bet wins and you will be paid an amount that is equivalent to your original stake multiplied by the relevant odds applicable when the bet was accepted and your original stake will be returned to you (subject to any applicable daily or maximum payout limits detailed in section 3)
  • Example: If you bet £10 on a horse to win at odds of 4/1 and the chosen horse wins the race, you will be paid winnings of £40 and your stake of £10 will also be returned.

c. If your bet loses i.e. the outcome does not occur, then we will keep your stake and you will not receive any payment from us.

d. We believe these Fair Deal Rules ensure a 'Fair Deal' when betting with William Hill. If you require clarification or advice, please speak to a member of our shop team in the first instance.

  • You can also call our Customer Relations Team on 08705 18 17 15 or email customerhelp@williamhill.co.uk.
  • Details of the independent alternative dispute resolution service you can use are given in Section 1.5 ‘Complaints and Disputes'.

e. You have 12 months from the date of the event/bet settlement to claim any winning bets.

  • Any claims made after this date may not be accepted by us.

2. Parties

  • William Hill’s LBOs in Great Britain are operated by William Hill Organization Limited, 1 Bedford Avenue, London, WC1B 3AU (“WHO”) and licensed by the GB Gambling Commission.

  • Anyone failing to produce satisfactory proof of age or identity will be asked to leave.

b. Anyone who brings an individual under the age of 18 into an LBO will be asked to leave.

d. We reserve the right to remove or ask any customer to leave our premises at any time.

e. In order to control our commercial risk, we reserve the right to impose staking limits or restrictions on the type of bets which can be placed by an individual.

  • This decision will be provided in writing and will remain in force until we issue further written notification that it has been lifted.

f. We reserve the right to impose a limit on the maximum stakes permitted by a single customer on individual betting opportunities or markets.

  • This limit will apply collectively across all shops and will also include bets which we have reasonable grounds to suspect were placed on behalf of the same individual by a third party.
  • For settlement purposes, all bets linked to the same individual will be treated as a single bet and any relevant maximum payout limits detailed in section 3 will apply.

g. If any customer breaches the published terms and conditions of any promotion, we reserve the right to void any bets in breach of these terms.

4. Refusal of Entry to LBO’s – Banning Orders

We reserve the right to issue a banning order (Cease of business notification) to any individual meaning they are not permitted entry to ANY William Hill LBO.

These can be issued due to any of the following reasons (not an exhaustive list).
  • Any conduct, language or behaviour which we deem to be inappropriate (Including anti-social behaviour and any threats made against WHO employees or property).

  • Any attempt to commit an act of fraud against WHO.
  • Where we have grounds to suspect that you are experiencing gambling-related harm and are not willing to enter into a voluntary self-exclusion agreement with us.
  • Failure to adhere to any trading restrictions imposed upon you in writing regarding your betting activity with WHO.
  • Where we believe that an individual’s betting activity is adversely affecting our ability to manage our liabilities effectively.

b. Any reference to amendments to these Fair Deal Rules will be advertised in our LBOs on our shop screens.

c. References to a ‘full service’ means shows, offs and results, broadcast by our service provider or a special William Hill service and displayed on our text screens, on a race by race basis.

d. Where we believe any circumstances (without limitation) outlined below have happened we can, at our discretion reverse or stop any electronic payments made or set off any payments owed to you against any amount owed by you to any company within the William Hill group.

  • This will apply even if you state you were unaware of any of the circumstances (outlined below).

i. An obvious error is made by us as to the amount of winnings/returns as a result of a manual or electronic system error, commonly referred to as a settlement error.

ii. Where a mistake is made on payout, where a bet may be settled correctly, but due to human error an incorrect amount is paid out.

iii. We have reasonable grounds to believe that you participated in or have been connected with any form of cheating, unfair or fraudulent practice or any other criminal activity.

  • Fraudulent practise includes the use of a stolen, cloned or unauthorised debit card as a source of funds and criminal activity includes money laundering.

iv. You have gained an unfair advantage over us in relation to any bet placed or game played.

Example: The exploitation of a fault, loophole or error in our software, or the use of a live electronic feed which provides you with the knowledge to place bets on markets where you are already aware of the outcome of events where bets are still being accepted.

v. An error is made by us or our data provider in relation to the time an event actually starts meaning we are offering pre-match odds and accepting bets after an event has already started.

e. No term or provision of these Fair Deal Rules shall be considered as waived by any party unless a waiver is given in writing by that party.

f. All bets made in LBOs in Great Britain and these Fair Deal Rules are governed by English law and the courts of England and Wales shall have the non-exclusive jurisdiction to settle any disputes that arise out of or in relation to them.

g. If any part of these Fair Deal Rules is deemed unlawful, void or for any reason unenforceable, then that part shall be deemed to be severable from the rest of these Fair Deal Rules and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions of these Fair Deal Rules.

h. References in these Fair Deal Rules to the words “we” and/or “us” shall be taken to be references to WHO (or B J O’Connor Limited as applicable).

10. Data Supplied by Third Party

  • Please be aware that data such as current scores, time elapsed etc that is displayed on our SSBT’s, website or on our text screens is sourced from a “live feed” provided by a third party and may be subject to time delay and/or be inaccurate.
  • If you rely on this data to place bets, you do so entirely at your own risk and William Hill accept no responsibility for any loss (direct or indirect) suffered by you as a result of your reliance on it.

11. Sport’s Governing Bodies

a. It is a condition of our acceptance of bets from you that, and by offering to place a bet with us, you represent that:

i. You are not prohibited from entering into the bet by any term of your contract of employment or any rule of a Sports Governing Body, which applies to you.

ii. You are not aware of any circumstance which would make the placing of the bet a breach of a rule on betting applied by a Sports Governing Body.

iii. Where the bet is placed on the outcome of a race, competition or other event or process or on the likelihood of anything occurring you do not know the outcome of the event or have not been involved in events which could have an impact on the potential outcome.

b. In the event of any such representation by you proving to be false your stake will be forfeited, and we shall not be obliged to pay any winnings which might otherwise have been payable in respect of the bet.

c. We will share information with relevant statutory bodies, such as the GB Gambling Commission, or other applicable governing bodies, where there is suspicious betting, or where we identify bets that have not been placed in accordance with our rules for Sports Governing Bodies.

12. Suspicion of Rigging or Unfair Practices

a. We reserve the right to withhold payment or void/cancel any bet(s) if we have reasonable suspicion that the prices or the pool have been manipulated, where a race, event or match has been rigged, or where ‘inside’ information (information not freely available in the public domain) has been used to gain an advantage.

  • Our reasonable suspicion may be based on the stakes, frequency or pattern of bets, or due to the geographical location of where the bets have been placed or based on links between individual customers or the accounts used to place the bets.
  • It is deemed to be reasonable suspicion if WHO have formally reported the betting activity on an event to any of the following:

i. IBIA (International Betting Integrity Association).

ii. The GB Gambling Commission Sports Betting Intelligence Unit.

iii. The applicable regulatory authority for the territory where the bet was struck.

iv. The official governing body of the sporting event under investigation.

v. The respective police services of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland or any other appropriate law enforcement agency.

b. We also reserve the right to withhold payment or void/cancel any bet(s) if any of the agencies/organisations listed above contact us to formally inform us that they have reasonable suspicions about a race, event or match being rigged.

c. We reserve the right to withhold payment of any winnings due until the relevant enquiries have been completed and the initial concerns or suspicions have proved to be unfounded.

d. The stakes from all bets which were deemed to be suspicious will be returned to customers, unless a directive is issued by the applicable regulatory authority or law enforcement agency instructing WHO not to make payment.

e. Whilst investigations are ongoing, any customers who have placed bets on the suspicious event will not be permitted to place any further bets with WHO.

  • If any bets are placed in breach of this rule, we reserve the right to withhold payment or void/cancel them.

f. Any winnings from bets which are not linked to bets placed on the suspicious event will be paid to the customer using the same payment method used to fund them.

g. If winnings from bets placed on the suspicious events have already been paid, as per our rule 1.9(d), we reserve the right to use any other monies owed from bets unrelated to the suspicious events to off-set the money already paid.

h. We may attempt to re-claim any remote payments already processed and accept no responsibility for any charges incurred if this leaves a customer’s bank account with a negative balance.

i. Once a reasonable suspicion has been reported by WHO or reported to WHO, we will be limited as to the amount of information we are able to provide to the impacted customers.

  • This is to ensure that we do not prejudice any ongoing formal investigations.
  • Customers will need to contact the applicable regulatory authority or sport’s governing body to request additional information.

j. WHO will NOT respond to any claims made via our appointed ADR service (IBAS) in relation to bets placed on markets or events which are under investigation by the relevant governing bodies or other 3rd party agencies.

  • All claims will be processed and responded to in full once we are made aware the investigation has been concluded.

13. Acceptance of Bets

a. Bets are placed with us by writing instructions on a betting slip, completing a coupon, using a self-service terminal or gaming machine.

  • You accept that by using a self-service betting terminal or gaming machine that these Fair Deal Rules will apply to your bet.
  • Additional rules relating specifically to self-service terminals and gaming machines can be found in the help section located on the terminal or gaming machine.a
  • For an over-the-counter bet to be valid, the bet number and image or printed bet details must be registered on our EPOS system or smart hub system and be printed on your receipt.

b. No bet is accepted until we have received the full amount of stake and we have provided you with a valid receipt confirming that the bet has been accepted by us.

  • We reserve the right to refuse to accept the whole or part of any bet.

c. It is your responsibility to ensure that your bets are written clearly and also that your timing, instructions, spelling and stakes are correct.

  • You should check your receipt to verify that the amount you have paid and your bet details have been correctly recorded.

d. Where you place a bet without writing out a bet slip, either via a self-service betting terminal, smart hub or by asking a member of staff to write the bet for you, it is your responsibility to ensure your receipt confirms your bet(s) has been placed in accordance with your instructions.

  • WHO cannot be held responsible for any mistakes which are made and which we are not made aware of at the time the bet is processed.

e. In the event of any difference between the original slip presented by the customer and the customer receipt, the selections as they appear on the image of the customer receipt captured by our EPOS system will determine settlement.

f. Where a particular race is indicated by using race card order, i.e., first race etc. then the race is taken as placed and timed in the day’s programme as given in the Racing Post with allowances being made for obvious printing errors, Arabian and charity races.

g. Bets can only be cancelled or changed by mutual consent and this would be conditional on the price remaining the same as when the bet was struck and prior to any events included in the bet having started.

  • You must retain your receipt until all bets on your slip can be fully settled, when any returns due will be paid upon the surrender of your receipt.

h. We can pay out bets on Horse Racing up to and including £1000 before the weigh-in at the Manager’s discretion regarding possible stewards’ enquiries and objections.

i. We reserve the right to void any bet accepted by us and withhold settlement if we suspect that the bet breaches the governing rules of the relevant sport or event in question or is an offence under the Gambling Act 2005.

  • We reserve the right to withhold payment and refer the matter to the Gambling Commission and/or the official governing body for the sport.

j. Should a number of bets, containing the same selection(s) be placed in one or more of our branches and we have reason to believe the funds for the bets have originated from one customer or a group/syndicate acting together, we reserve the right to limit all of those bets combined to the single maximum payout applicable in Section 3 of these Fair Deal Rules.

k. Winnings may be collected at any branch of William Hill provided the paying branch is able to confirm the bet details with the branch where the bet was placed.

  • On occasions, it may be necessary for the bet to be collected only at the branch where it was placed.

l. On occasion we may ask for proof of identity and/or proof of income before any payment can be made.

  • Failure or refusal to provide appropriate documentation may result in WHO withholding payment.

m. On occasions, it may be necessary for us to verify the validity of a bet prior to payment.

  • In such cases, every effort will be made to release payment as soon as possible.
  • Where our computerised records confirm that a receipt has been processed for payment and we are fully satisfied that payment has been made, no further payment will be made even if you are in possession of the original receipt.

n. Telephone bets, postal bets or bets put through letterboxes are not accepted.

2. PAYMENT METHODS

1. Bets Placed by Customers

a. Cash - The full payment (total stake) must be handed to our cashier with your bet.

  • We will not accept any bet which is presented without the stake.
  • Our staff have no authority to allow credit and any bet inadvertently accepted without the stake will be invalid.
  • Our staff have been instructed to check all banknotes for forgeries using special equipment installed in all our branches.
  • Any detected will be retained, and the police will be notified.

b. Bank or Building Society Debit Card - You are only permitted to use your personal bank/building society debit card to pay for your bets.

  • When a debit card is used to pay for a bet you are responsible for ensuring you approach the counter with sufficient time to ensure the payment process can be fully completed ahead of the beginning of the race/event.
  • Any winnings from bets funded by debit cards must be refunded back onto the same card and will not be paid in cash, although is some circumstances full or part payment of winnings in cash will be permitted.
  • Once a refund is processed, it can take up to 5 working days to appear in your account.

c. Business Debit Cards - We do not accept business debit cards, but any bets funded using such a card will stand win or lose.

d. Credit Card – Payment by credit card is not permitted.

e. Cheque - Counter cheques, banker’s drafts and personal cheques are not accepted.

f. Pre-paid Debit Cards - We do not accept pre-paid debit cards, but any bets funded using such a card will stand.

g. Contactless - Our debit card terminals will accept contactless payment via debit cards up to a maximum of £45 per transaction.

  • The amount of contactless transactions or total spend using this method is controlled by the bank which issued the card and WHO is not liable if a contactless transaction is rejected.
  • We do not accept contactless payment using a mobile phone or electronic device, but any bets placed using such a method will stand.

h. Self Service Betting Terminals or Gaming Machines - Cash can be loaded/input directly into the terminals using coins or notes, or customers can ‘load’ credit onto a specific terminal by paying at the counter using cash or a debit card.

  • It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure they do not leave credit on a terminal.
  • WHO cannot be held responsible for any losses incurred through other customers using the credit if the terminal is left unsupervised.

2. Returns/Winnings

a. Cash - When a bet or credit loaded onto a SSBT/FOBT has been paid for using cash, we will attempt to pay any winnings due in cash.

  • For larger payments, there may be a delay whilst the cash is counted and checked to ensure accuracy.
  • If there is not enough cash available in the shop at the time the winning bet is presented for payment, we can offer full or part payment by refunding the monies owed onto a debit card.
  • As part of this process, we reserve the right to request photographic proof of identification and the debit card must be in the name of the customer who placed the bet.
  • On some occasions, if a large payment MUST be made in cash at the request of either the customer or imposed by WHO in order to satisfy its regulatory requirements, to ensure the safety and security of both shop colleagues and customers, we may insist on payment to be made in a more secure location.

b. Cash payments of over £3,000 must be authorised by our central team prior to payment.

  • Bets cannot be placed on the strength of potential winnings owed until the bet has been audited and verified fully.
  • Any bets accepted in error may be voided, win or lose.

c. Bank or Building Society Debit Card - If a bet is paid for using a debit card, we reserve the right to insist that any winnings are paid back onto the same debit card.

  • As part of this process, we reserve the right to request photographic proof of identification and the debit card must be in the name of the customer who placed the bet.
  • Payments made this way can take 3 to 5 working days to appear in your account.

d. Debit card refund payments of over £5,000 must be processed centrally and a standard receipt will not be issued to the customer.

  • On request, a written receipt can be provided by a member of staff confirming the amount paid and the bet details for reference.

e. Self Service Betting Terminals or Gaming Machines - Where you place a bet using a self-service betting terminal (SSBT) or gaming machine (FOBT), winnings are paid at the counter on presentation of a printed receipt/cash voucher obtained from the terminal/gaming machine.

  • The maximum amount that can be won on any SSBT is reflected in the maximum winnings table in section 3 and is dependent on sport or event, and the maximum which can be won on a gaming machine from a single spin is £500.
  • There may be occasions where payment of winnings on a SSBT or gaming machine is withheld pending the outcome of an investigation by our Senior Management Team into technical issues, potential fraud or suspicious gameplay.
  • As part of this process we reserve the right to request photographic proof of identification.
  • Winning receipts or cash vouchers printed by the terminal can be loaded back onto the terminal by scanning the barcode on the SSBT terminal, or for gaming machines, by inserting the ticket into the note acceptor.
  • This will credit the terminal and allow further bets to be placed.

f. Cheque - For security reasons, there may be occasions, particularly in the case of a large win, or when a personal debit card cannot be provided, when a cheque will be offered by us in respect of full or part payment.

  • This can take up to 5 working days to appear in your account.
  • As part of this process we reserve the right to request photographic proof of identification prior to issuing the cheque.

g. Pre-paid Debit Cards - If we use our debit card terminal to load winnings back onto a debit card which is a pre-payment card, the payment will initially be processed by WH but depending on the card supplier it may not credit the pre-payment card account.

  • In these situations, we will ask for photographic identification which matches the pre-paid debit card along with a valid personal debit card which the winnings will then be processed onto.
  • If a personal debit card cannot be provided, we reserve the right to issue a cheque in payment of the monies owed.

h. Contactless - If a bet has been funded using a non-debit card contactless payment method (Android Pay/Apple Pay), we reserve the right to ask for Photo ID along with a personal debit card in the same name to which the winnings will be loaded.

i. It is your responsibility to keep your bet secure.

  • William Hill cannot be held responsible for any losses incurred where images or details of a bet have been shared with others (including but not limited to sharing images of betting slips on social media platforms).
  • Where our computerised records confirm that a receipt has been processed for payment, and we are fully satisfied that payment has been made, no further payment will be made even if you are in possession of the original receipt.

3. Lost Receipt Claims

a. Payment is made on presentation of the official receipt.

  • Where this has been lost you must complete a Lost Receipt Claim Form and payment will be released provided that we are satisfied with the bona fides of your claim and you agree to indemnify William Hill in the event of a further claim on the bet.
  • You will be required to sign for the payment and if requested provide proof of identity.

b. On certain occasions, involving bets with large returns, to secure our indemnity, we will write to you at the address provided on your Photo ID and only pay the returns due on presentation of the letter.

c. It is your responsibility to make us aware of a lost receipt.

  • If you notify us after the bet has been settled and payment has already been made on the official receipt, we regret that no further payment can be made, even if there is clear evidence that the original bet was placed by you.

d. If you notify us about a lost receipt prior to the bet being settled, we will withhold payment on the bet until we can confirm the bona fides of your claim, even if a 3rd party presents the original receipt for payment.

e. If you have lost the receipt and we are unable to verify the bet details on our central system for any reason, then no payment will be made.

f. You have a maximum of 12 months from the date of the bet being placed to make a claim for payment on a lost slip.

3. MAXIMUM WINNINGS

a. The maximum winnings categories listed below apply to bets placed in LBO’s, (either at the counter or on Self Service terminals), online, or via telephone betting accounts.

  • The maximum winnings categories in the UK and Jersey are in Sterling.
  • A bet is accepted on the basis that it is the investment of one customer only and the following are the maximum amounts that can be won (excluding stake) by a customer in one day's betting regardless of stake and apply even if bets have been placed through more than one betting channel (i.e., online, telephone betting or LBOs).

b. Where bets have been placed on different days, the maximum amount that can be won in one day’s betting is determined by the day on which the final race/event on each bet is resolved, rather than the day on which each individual bet is placed.

c. Where selections taken from the different categories listed below are combined in multiple or accumulative bets the lowest maximum winnings limit will apply.

d. Where bets are placed in an alternative currency, the maximum payout will be converted based on the table below using the Sterling local currency exchange rate on the day of settlement of the bet.

e. If a bet is accepted where the potential returns are greater than the maximum payout permissible, we will refund the excess stake on request.

4. RULE 4 DEDUCTIONS

1. Withdrawals

a. Where a horse is withdrawn after the final declaration stage and before coming under starter's orders or is officially deemed by the starter to have taken no part in the race, stakes will be returned on the withdrawn horse and winning bets will be subject to deductions in accordance with Tattersalls’ Rule 4.

b. This rule applies to early price and show price bets, but not to SP unless a horse is withdrawn very close to the off of a race, and a new market is not formed, then a Rule 4 deduction will apply to the SP returned.

c. In multiple bets, the deduction will only apply to part of the bet specifically involving the race with the withdrawn horse.

  • Other parts of the multiple bet will not be affected.

d. Should a horse be withdrawn, and a new market formed, then any bets laid at prices prior to the new market being formed will be subject to deductions.

e. In the event of a further withdrawal after the market has been re-formed, bets placed at prices in the original market will be subject to a further deduction based on the price of the withdrawn horse in the original market when the 1st horse was withdrawn.

  • Bets placed in the new market will be subject to a deduction based on the current price.

f. Deductions apply both to win bets and each way/place bets.

g. The deduction is taken from winnings only and not from the original stake.

  • Example: £1 @ 10/1 where a 25p Rule 4 applies.
  • Winnings are reduced to £7.50 with £1 stake returned so total returns paid to the customer are £8.50.

h. Rule 4 does not apply to ante-post bets (bets placed prior to the final declaration stage).

  • If any horse is withdrawn prior to the final declaration stage, then stakes are lost instead of returned so no deduction is applied to any winning bets.

i. ‘Rule 4’ originates from Tattersall’s Rules of Betting (a list of rules devised in 1886 to govern racing), which are a longstanding part of horse racing betting in the UK and Ireland.

  • It’s called ‘Rule 4’ as it’s number 4 on the list.

j. Rule 4 deductions are not limited to horse racing and can also apply to certain sports betting outright markets where we refund stakes on participants or teams that do participate in the competition.

  • Deductions on other participants will be in line with the scale in this section.

2. Rate of Deduction

a. The rate of deduction will be based on the following scale.

b. In the event of two or more horses being withdrawn before coming under starter's orders, the total deductions shall not exceed 90p in £.

Price of non-runner at time of withdrawal Amount deducted from winnings
1/9 or longer odds on 90p in the £
2/11 to 2/17 85p in the £
1/4 to 1/5 80p in the £
3/10 to 2/7 75p in the £
2/5 to 1/3 70p in the £
8/15 to 4/9 65p in the £
8/13 to 4/7 60p in the £
4/5 to 4/6 55p in the £
20/21 to 5/6 50p in the £
Evens to 6/5 45p in the £
5/4 to 6/4 40p in the £
8/5 to 7/4 35p in the £
9/5 to 9/4 30p in the £
12/5 to 3/1 25p in the £
16/5 to 4/1 20p in the £
9/2 to 11/2 15p in the £
6/1 to 9/1 10p in the £
10/1 to 14/1 5p in the £
Over 14/1 No deduction

5. WILLIAM HILL PLUS

1. General

a. Plus allows Retail bets placed on a William Hill Self Service Terminal (Plus Terminal) to be tracked anywhere at any time through the Plus Web App: www.williamhillplus.com or via the self-service terminal.

b. The Plus card is a free, contactless card that makes it easy to tag your bets for live tracking.

  • The card is available from LBOs and is registered in-shop using the William Hill Plus Betting Terminal.

c. The only information needed is your mobile phone number which enables us to send you a secure 4-digit code by SMS so you can log-in to the Plus site and view your tracked bets.

d. It is the responsibility of customer to ensure the SSBT is not logged in to an historic session before placing a bet.

  • WHO reserve the right to withhold payment on any bet tracked by and subsequently paid to another customer.
  • Cash-in values will stand.
  • d. For a full list of terms and conditions in relation to the use of Plus, please see https://plus.williamhill.com/terms. For any issues, please contact our Customer Support Team.

2. Markets on which a Cash-In Value will not be available

a. Any events where WHO has decided not to offer live in-play odds.

b. Any events where WHO cannot source a reliable and stable feed, meaning the integrity of the in-play odds cannot be relied upon.

c. Any bespoke markets such as #YourOdds or special offers where a selected price has been enhanced.

d. Any market where the odds for the selection are so short or long that a cash-in calculation is not possible.

e. EW bets cannot be cashed-in.

f. Where a bet has been placed on odds which were incorrect due to an obvious pricing error.

g. On any event where a cash-in value is not available, once the event starts cash-in will be suspended.

3. Other Reasons why a Cash-In value may not be available

a. If for any reason the live in-play prices on an event are suspended due to a significant event occurring in the game (Goal etc), then any bet which contains that event will not offer a cash-in value.

b. If a bet has a large number of events, due to the regular suspension of live in-play prices there may be limited availability of a cash-in value on the bet.

c. The device being used does not have a stable/strong data feed or the processing power to support the website.

d. The feed supplier or WHO website experiences technical issues resulting in live prices not being available.

e. If a 'Cash-in' value changes during your transaction, the transaction will not complete and a revised settlement value will be offered, which will have to be accepted before proceeding.

f. On live events, there can be a delay between a customer's request to Cash-In and the payout amount being confirmed.

  • When a request is processed, if the actual 'Cash-In' value is suspended for any of the reasons above, your request will be unable to be completed.
  • You will be returned to your original bet where an updated 'Cash-In' value will be displayed once available.

g. William Hill accepts no liability for any losses incurred in the event that a request to cash in a bet is not possible due to a cash-in value not being available for any reason.

4. Linking Plus Cards to William Hill Online Accounts

a. Plus card accounts can be linked to existing William Hill online betting accounts as per the process described in the Plus card support page available at https://plus.williamhill.com/support and in line with the terms and conditions available at https://plus.williamhill.com/terms.

b. Once linked, we may offer you the functionality to use monies from your online account to fund bets placed with us in an LBO using the SSBT’s.

c. Your Account may have no more than 2 different cards and/or Cash Direct registered as payment methods.

  • You will be required to remove any additional payment methods to enable the deposit/withdrawal functionality and also set a PIN on the WH.com website.

d. Winnings from all bets funded by monies in an online account will be automatically deposited back into the same online account.

5. Depositing and Withdrawing Funds from an Online Account in Shop using Plus

a. You can use your Plus card and App to deposit funds into your online account and withdraw winnings from bets placed online in shop in cash.

  • Limits and restrictions apply.
  • Please see https://plus.williamhill.com/terms.

b. In order to ensure we protect your online funds from fraud, we have multiple methods in place to identify you.

  • A PIN is used when you make a withdrawal request, transfer winnings to your online account or place a bet using your online funds so we know it's definitely you.
  • You will need to remember it and keep it secure, but if you forget it you can set a new one by logging into your online account, going to the 'Account' menu and selecting PLUS. There is an option to change your PIN.

c. In some circumstances, we may need you to provide additional documentation or information in order to fully activate your online account.

  • Until we can validate this information, you won't be able to withdraw funds from your account.
  • If this is the case, we will already have contacted you via e-mail to explain what you need to do.

6. GENERAL SPORTS BETTING RULES

1. Events on which Bets are Accepted

a. Bets are accepted on any sports where betting opportunities are displayed on our screens in our retail shops or available on www.williamhill.com in accordance with the rules issued for such events.

b. All other sports bets will only be accepted where we specifically advertise that betting is available, or if our trading team compile a bespoke price at the request of a customer.

c. Bets accepted in error for any event not covered by rules a. and b. above will be declared void.

d. If any sport, event or betting market is not covered by the rules listed in this document, then the rules on our website published at www.williamhill.com will apply to bets placed.

e. A full copy of the rules for any sport can be requested by e-mailing customerhelp@williamhill.co.uk.

2. Settlement

a. Bets are accepted for all sporting events on which we offer odds.

  • Unless a specific reference is made in the individual section that covers the sport, settlement of all markets will be taken from the feed supplied by our service provider immediately after the event has finished and based on the official competition rules.
  • In the event of a dispute, the service provider will complete a verification process to settle bets. This will normally be confirmed within 24 hours of the event finishing.
  • If the process cannot be completed or there is significant evidence that the data is incorrect, bets will be settled based on such reputable information sources which are available to us.
  • Adjustments to settlement will not be made for any changes or adjustments made by governing bodies after the event.

b. For special bets such as Managers who will not be in charge of their team by the end of the season etc. the end of the season is determined as the time when the programme (including play-offs), for that particular league or competition, has been completed.

  • Single bets only are accepted.

c. Where the prices for both outright win and handicap betting are advertised, unless the handicap or a qualifying price has been requested, all bets will be settled on the outright win.

  • However, where only handicap betting is available unless to win outright is clearly indicated bets will be settled at the handicap advertised at the time the bet was accepted.

d. The handicap line may change at any time. If this occurs, settlement will be determined by the handicap advertised at the time the bet was accepted.

  • Where the final scores are equal after the handicap has been applied, handicap bets will be void unless a price has been offered for the draw/tie.
  • Where alternative handicap spreads are available these must be selected at the time the bet is placed.

e. Winning margin/correct score betting is from scratch.

  • For a winning margin bet to be successful, the exact winning margin must be predicted.

f. Unless clearly specified otherwise in the individual rules for a sport, in the event of a change of opponent from the one advertised, all bets for that match are void.

g. In the event of a change of venue not published or known to us at the time the prices or handicaps are advertised, bets will stand provided the match is not switched to the opponent’s ground, in which case selections for that match will be made void.

h. Unless a reference is made in the section of our rules that covers the sport, or is advertised otherwise, totaltournament/series markets will apply to all playing time, including extra time.

i. Unless a specific reference is made in the individual section that covers the sport, extra time/overtime will not count for any markets offered on a match other than to win outright.

j. Unless a specific reference is made in the individual section that covers the sport, for events with 3 or more competitors/teams, where no price is quoted for a tie and the official competition rules do not determine a clear winner, dead heat rules will apply to outright bets on competitors/teams declared as joint/co winners.

  • Where no official result is declared, outright bets will be made void.

k. Unless a specific reference is made in the individual section that covers the sport, for events with 2 competitors/teams, where no price is quoted for a tie and the official result is a tie, dead heat rules will apply.

  • Where no official result is declared, outright bets will be made void.

l. Unless a specific reference is made in the individual section that covers the sport, opponents must start the match for ‘head to head’ match bets to stand.

m. In the event that we refund stakes on a non-participant in a sports outright market (such as Tournament Winner or Group Winner) then a Rule 4 deduction may apply in line with the scale laid out in section 4 of these rules.

n. Where bets are available on whether a specific number is odd or even, zero will count as even.

o. With the exception of the cricket in-play match result market, where there is no action in an event after a bet has been placed the bet will be void.

p. In the Olympic Games, World and European Championships bets, the podium presentation will count as the result.

  • Any subsequent amendments to the result will not count.

q. Where it is not clear whether a bet is intended for an individual match or to win the competition unless the opponent has been named or a qualifying price laid the bet will be settled “to win the match”.

3. Prices

  • Prices for sports and special events are compiled by William Hill and the price available at the time the bet was accepted will be used to calculate any winning return.
  • Prices for all races and events are subject to fluctuation.

4. Non-Runners/Non-Participants and Void Selections

  • Unless a bet has been placed under ante post terms, when a selection is made void or does not run, then in single bets the stake will be returned.
  • In accumulative bets, the stake will run on to the remaining selection(s) with a double becoming a single, a treble becoming a double and so on.
  • Unless a specific reference is made in the individual section that covers the sport, abandoned or postponed events are void.
  • However, bets in markets that have already been resolved at the time of abandonment, such as ‘first touchdown scorer’ etc will stand.

5. Dead Heats

  • In a dead heat, the stake money on a selection is divided by the number of runners or competitors involved in the dead heat.
  • The full odds are then paid to the divided stake, with the remainder of the stake money being lost.

6. Conditional Bets, Any to Come, Stop at a Winner etc

a. A conditional bet is where you exercise options which depend on the outcome of bets already resolved.

  • Example: £10 win FAV 2:30 Ascot any-to-come £20 win FAV 3:00 Ascot.

b. In any-to-come bets it must be clearly stated from which selection(s) the re-invested stake is to be taken and the amount that is to be re-invested.

  • If you have not stipulated an amount, then all of the returns from the preceding bet will be reinvested.
  • Should the preceding bet be a multiple one, then the total stake on that bet will determine the amount.
  • Cash in hand from one selection cannot go on to the same selection or any selection in the same race.

c. Where there is more than one any-to-come instruction, unless you state otherwise, bets will be executed in strict rotation until all of your stake plus any returns accumulated from all preceding legs is exhausted.

d. For the purpose of settling, the words 'If Lose' or 'If win' will be read as 'If Lose'/If win' or 'non-runner'.

e. Stop-at-a-winner bets continue until one of the selections occupies first place. The selections will be settled in the order given. Winners that dead heat count as winners.

i. Stop-at-a-winner bets are not accepted where more than one selection in the same race or races are included.
ii. If taken in error, selections in the same race will be settled as single bets with the Stop-at-a-winner instruction ignored.

f. Conditional bets are not available on our website.

7. Ante Post Betting (Future Events)

a. Ante post prices are those offered on:

i. Horse Racing prior to the final declaration stage (48 hours before race), after this all bets will be "Non-runner, No Bet". From this point on, Tattersalls Rule 4 will apply.
ii. Greyhound events up to and including the semi-final stage. (Any bets placed after the semi-finals or on a single race event where a price has been taken will be settled as early price bets and stakes refunded on non-runners. In the event of a non-runner all bets will be settled at starting price).
iii. Sports events prior to the start of an event, with the exception of bets on a golf tournament, a tennis tournament, a match, a single race event (e.g., London Marathon) or an individual heat/stage.
iv. All special (non-sporting) events.

b. Ante post bets are accepted on the understanding that you will lose your stake if your selection does not participate.

  • No Tattersalls’ Rule 4 deductions are made from winning bets except when a runner in a horse race is balloted out.

c. Bets placed after the start of a sports event are not classified by us as ante post.

i. Unless a specific reference is made in the rules for a particular sport, the start of an event is defined as the first time there is any competitive action.
ii. Stakes will be refunded on competitors/teams who take no further part after the bet is placed, unless they have been eliminated by competition rules.
  • A Tattersalls’ Rule 4 deduction will be applied to winning bets placed after the competitor’s/team’s last competitive action and prior to the market being re-formed.
iii. Stakes are lost on competitors/teams that start an event and then withdraw.
iv. In total tournament/series markets e.g., top series wicket taker, winner of the golden boot etc. individuals named in the team squad will be deemed to have participated whether or not they have taken part in any competitive action.

d. The maximum winnings limit for ante post bets are determined by the categories listed in the section 3 of these rules.

e. Ante post each way doubles, trebles etc. are settled win to win, place to place.

f. Ante post bets are settled at the price and place terms applicable at the time of acceptance.

g. Place only bets and forecast bets are not accepted at ante post odds.

  • If taken in error, place only bets will be void.
  • Forecast bets will be settled on the computer straight forecast.

h. Where the same selection is backed to win two or more ante post events in an accumulative bet a special combined price will apply irrespective of any individual prices quoted.

  • Where no special combined price is available e.g., a horse to win a Derby trial and the Derby, settlement will be based on the first available odds after each leg has been completed.

i. Lucky 15/31/63 and other William Hill special bets are not available at ante post odds.

  • Any taken in error will be settled without the bonuses or consolations.

j. The terms of special event/sports bets laid following a written/email request from an individual customer will be clarified in our written/emailed response to the customer prior to the bet being placed.

k. If a horse race is postponed to another day:

i. Ante post bets placed before the entries have closed will stand and will only be made void if:

  • The race is abandoned or made void.
  • A horse is balloted out under Jockey Club Rules of Racing.
  • The venue is altered.

ii.Ante post bets placed after the entries have closed will be void, except when:

  • The race is run at a later date at the same venue.
  • The entries are not re-opened.
    • When the entries revert back to a previous declaration stage e.g., five/six day stage, this will not count as entries being re-opened.

8. Virtual Racing/Sports

  • Virtual Racing/Sports are a computer-generated presentation of an accredited random number generator, in which the first number generated decides which competitor wins the event, the second and third, which ones are placed etc.
  • If a virtual race in the SIS live service or a William Hill virtual race is not shown live in our shops bets still stand, as the event will still have taken place, results can be found by asking an in-shop colleague.

9. Related Contingencies

  • Accumulative/multiple bets are not accepted where the outcome of one part of the bet contributes to the outcome or affects the price of another.
  • If taken in error the stake will be invested on the selection with the largest price.
  • Where two or more selections are quoted at the largest price the stake will be equally divided between them.
  • However, where the related parts of the bet are resolved at different times, unless ‘special double’ or ‘special accumulative’ odds are available, bets will be settled as instructed with the odds for the second or subsequent legs being determined at each individual stage.

10. Late/Void Bets

a. We produce an automated “no more bets time” for all horse, greyhound and numbers events covered in our full service.

  • Bets are valid if accepted up to this time.
  • Single bets accepted after the “no more bets time” will be void.
  • In multiple bets, late selections will be treated as non-runners.

b. Where the official “off” of a race or event is not announced bets are accepted up to the advertised start time.

  • With the exception of horse racing if betting in-play is available bets will stand and be settled at the current in-play price at the time the full amount of stake is received by us and the bet processed through our EPOS system.
  • This price will apply even if it is different to the price initially advertised when the bet was first presented.
  • Where betting in-play is not available any bet that is inadvertently accepted after the advertised start time will be void, unless we are satisfied that the bet was placed before the actual start of the event or on a golf event up to 15 minutes after the start time; a football match up to 15 minutes after the start time, provided there has been no goals scored or players sent off and any of the following sports events up to 5 minutes after the start time: American Football; Baseball; Basketball; Cricket; Cycling; Darts; Gaelic Football/Hurling; Ice Hockey; Rugby; Snooker/Pool; Speedway; Tennis.
  • In each of these instances bets will stand, unless the customer receipt confirms that the late selection is void.

c. Any bet accepted after an event has finished will be void.

d. Any bet accepted in error and contrary to the provisions of sections a), b) & c) above will be void even if you have been provided with a valid printed receipt.

e. We do not accept any responsibility for a bet not being placed for any reason, including but not limited to; computer or till malfunction, electricity failure and/or failure of telecommunications systems or services.

f. We reserve the right to refuse payment on any bet where we are unable to substantiate the selections and the instructions on our bet capture or back office system. We will not honour bets that have been submitted to us but not confirmed in the manner described in section a) above.

11. Obvious Errors

a. An LBO is, by its very nature, a fast-moving environment.

  • Odds move rapidly and bets are taken continuously, consequently mistakes can occur.
  • We will do all that we can to avoid this, but we cannot accept responsibility for any obvious errors or omissions in respect of the announcing, publishing, displaying or marking of prices, handicaps, place terms, runners or results that occur despite our every effort to ensure total accuracy.

A non –exhaustive list of “obvious errors” is as follows:

i. The prices/terms offered are materially different from those available in the general market at the time the bet was placed (online or in retail shops, including the prices offered for example by Coral and Ladbrokes) or on other William Hill channels.
ii. The prices/terms offered at the time the bet is placed are clearly incorrect given the probability of the event occurring.
iii. Odds or terms of a bet have been misquoted as a result of human or system error.
iv. Where we have continued to accept bets on a market which should have been suspended, including where the relevant event is in progress (except where ‘in-running’ bets are accepted) or had already finished (sometimes referred to as ‘late bets’); where an error is made by us as to the amount of winnings/returns that are paid to you, including as a result of a manual or computer input error.

b. If we do make an obvious error, then the following rules will apply:

i. We reserve the right to correct any obvious error made on a bet placed in one of our betting in-play markets and settle at the correct price or terms which were actually available with William Hill (absent the obvious error) at the time the bet was struck.
ii. When a bet is placed on a market offered before an event has started and more advantageous odds or terms than those actually available with William Hill are applied, we will either settle the bet at the correct price or terms available with William Hill or, on condition that you can provide us with verification, at the best price or on the best terms available with any of the following companies at the time the bet was struck: Bet 365; Betfred; Coral; Ladbrokes; Paddy Power.
iii. Where the incorrect odds or terms are less advantageous than those available with William Hill the odds or terms will be amended to the correct odds or terms available.

c. Example:

  • Where William Hill’s actual price for Harry Kane to score the first goal is 5/1 but you are quoted 50/1 in error then your bet would be settled at 5/1 or the best price available with the companies listed above even if this price is higher than the actual William Hill price.
  • Where, however, you have been quoted 5/2 on the same bet the price will be amended upwards to 5/1.

d. Where an obvious error is made with regard to a special accumulative price (such as an Enhanced Special) then bets will be settled as follows:

i. Special accumulative markets where prices are available for the individual components of the bet will be settled based on the correct prices available for the individual components at the time the bet was struck.
ii. Special accumulative markets where prices are not available for the individual components of the bet will be settled based on the price our traders would have offered at the time the bet was struck.
iii. Where the original market was subject to a price boost this will be factored in when settling a bet in this manner.

e. If an over the counter bet is inadvertently accepted with any prices/spreads/place terms not written by or endorsed by our staff, the prices/spreads/place terms will stand provided they are clearly written and were available at the time the bet was processed.

  • If the price/spread/place terms written by you are incorrect then the correct price/spread/place terms available at the time the bet was processed will apply to your bet.
  • Where no price is available at the time the bet is placed, we reserve the right to settle horse and greyhound bets at the starting price and sports/special event bets at the next available price.
  • We do not lay 'BAR' prices, nor do we accept instructions such as 'First show' prior to the transmission of a show of betting for that race.
  • Any such bets taken in error will be settled at starting price.

12. Incorrect Spelling/Pricing/Stake and Ambiguous Bet Instructions

a. Incorrect Spelling

i. Should you WRONGLY SPELL a named selection the bet will stand provided that only one runner selection could possibly be intended.
  • However, where the ambiguous selection combines the names or part of the names of two or more runners, the first word/first letters written will take precedence and the bet will stand for this runner.
  • Where the first word/first letters written, or odds laid do not uniquely define a selection the race time will determine the intention.
  • If the selection still cannot be determined the stake will be divided equally between those runners that could possibly be intended. In any other instance the selection will be void.

b. Staking Related Issues

i. Should you UNDERSTAKE your slip, the total return from the whole of your slip will be proportioned by the amount you have underpaid thereby reducing any return due (i.e. the return will be multiplied by the amount paid and divided by the amount that should have been paid).

  • Where a bet is under-rung in error, the settlement will be determined by the staking instructions and the actual amount of stake paid for the bet.
  • Example: If the instruction is for a £200 win single and £200 is paid for the bet, but the bet is rung up for £2, it will be settled as a £200 bet.

ii. Should you OVERSTAKE your slip, the total return from the whole of your slip will be proportioned by the amount you have overpaid, thereby increasing any return due (i.e., the return will be multiplied by the amount paid and divided by the amount that should have been paid).

  • No overstaking will be returned.
  • Where a bet is over-rung in error, the settlement will be determined by the staking instructions and the amount of stake actually paid for the bet.
  • Example: If the instruction is for a £20 win single and £20 is paid for the bet but the bet is rung up for £200 it will be settled as a £20 bet.

iii. Where you have written ONLY ONE SELECTION ON THE SLIP and the stake unit nominated does not correspond with the total amount you have paid, the total amount paid will determine the stake, for example, £5 win with a total stake of £10 will be settled as £10 win.

  • £5 each way with a total stake of £20 will be settled as £10 each way.

iv. Where you have nominated TOO FEW SELECTIONS for a bet type that has a fixed number of selections i.e., full cover bet such as Lucky 15, Yankee, Heinz, etc. then, subject to rule d) vii), a non-runner or non-runners will be added.

  • Example: £1 Yankee with three selections, one non-runner will be added to the three selections. The bet will not be treated as overstaked.

v. Where the bet type does not have a fixed number of selections or is of unequal stakes then it will be treated as overstaked with the excess stake proportioned over the whole slip in accordance with rule b) ii).

vi. Where you have nominated TOO MANY SELECTIONS for a bet type that has a fixed number of selections i.e., a full cover bet such as a Lucky 15, Yankee, Heinz, etc. then the stake you have paid will be proportioned over the appropriate bet type for that number of selections.

  • Example: If you stipulate ‘Yankee’ with a total stake for 11 bets but 5 selections, then settlement will be for 11/26ths of the total returns from a ‘Canadian’.

vii. Where the bet type does not have a fixed number of selections or is of unequal stakes then the bet will be treated as understaked, with the stake proportioned over the whole of the slip, in accordance with rule b) i).

viii. 1, 2 or any number of crosses is taken to mean single stakes about. If double stakes about is required, you must clearly write this in the instructions.

  • If both your selections are in the same race the any-to-come instruction will be ignored.

ix. In multiple bets where two or more SELECTIONS RUN IN THE SAME RACE, stakes will be equally divided where the selections clash subject to section a).  For example, if you stipulate 3x£2 win doubles and a £2 win treble on three selections, A, B and C, with selections A and B being in the same race, then the bet is settled £1 win A, £1 win B, £2 double AC, £2 double BC, and the treble becomes 2x£1 win doubles AC and BC.

c. Incorrect Timing

i. Where you INCORRECTLY TIME a named selection, which is not doubly engaged, the bet will stand for the race in which the selection actually runs.

  • Should a doubly engaged selection be untimed or timed incorrectly, then the bet is deemed to be for the first race in which the selection runs after the bet was placed.
  • If you include two selections, one of which is doubly engaged, in an accumulative or multiple bet but they run in the same race, then the selection which is doubly engaged will be automatically timed for the race in which the entries do not clash.

ii. However, where only two selections are given and the instructions are for a DOUBLE and both run in the same race, the bet will be settled as a straight forecast if a win double is requested and a reverse forecast if an each way double is requested.

iii. Where only three selections are given and the instructions are for a TREBLE and all three selections are in the same race, if that race is a Tricast race, the bet will be settled as a straight Tricast, if a win treble is requested and a combination Tricast settled in proportion if an each way treble is requested.

  • In all other cases the stake will be apportioned over the number of selections nominated and the bet settled as singles at starting price.

iv. Where you nominate the SAME SELECTION TWICE, then all bets will be settled as instructed with the duplicated selection becoming a non-runner.

v. Where you nominate the same bet instruction twice in a multiple bet, the highest bet type not covered in the bet will be substituted.

  • Example: A bet on three selections A, B and C with the instructions 3 x £1 win trebles and a £1 win treble will be settled as 3 X £1 win doubles and a £1 win treble, not a £4 win treble.

d. Bet Instruction Related Issues

i. Where a price has been marked on a slip that contains no selection, or an ambiguously written selection, the price will determine the intention.

ii. Where a horse race bet has been placed prior to the final declaration stage, unless SP is indicated, it will be treated as an ante post bet and settled at the odds available on the day the bet was struck.

iii. Where you stipulate the meeting and/or the time but DO NOT SPECIFY A SELECTION, the bet will be settled on the first favourite in the race stated, unless it is clear by the indication of a word such a 'Trap' or 'No.' that you had intended to nominate a specific selection, in which case it will be treated as a non-runner.

  • However, where a price has been taken the stake will be invested on any runner(s) quoted in that race at the price taken at the time the bet was struck.

iv. Where NO INSTRUCTIONS are written against a single selection the bet will be settled as a win single.

  • Where two or more selections are involved the bet will be settled as a win full cover bet of doubles and upwards with the stake equally divided.
  • Example: 3 selections - £10 staked = 3 x £2.50 doubles, 1 x £2.50 treble.

v. However, where your stake divides exactly by the total number of bets for full cover INCLUDING SINGLES, indicating that this type of bet was intended, then your bet will be settled as such.

  • Example: 3 selections - £7 staked = £1 win Patent.

vi. Where both or all the selections are in the SAME RACE then they will be settled as forecast bets to the appropriate stake i.e. two selections will be settled as one straight forecast in the order written; for three or more selections, the amount of stakes will be divided equally to include all forecast combinations (e.g. three selections written will be settled as six straight forecasts).

vii. The only exception to this rule is where three selections are nominated in a Tricast race and the stake does not divide exactly by six.

  • In this case the bet will be settled as a Tricast. Example: 3 selections - stake £1 = £1 Tricast.
  • Where a combination bet has been indicated but no instructions as to whether a forecast or Tricast is intended, the bet will be settled as a forecast combination as per rule d) vi).

viii. Where you have clearly indicated that only ONE ACCUMULATIVE BET is required, then settlement will be for one accumulative bet according to the number of selections given.

  • Example: Three selections nominated with bet instructions ‘£1’, total stake £1, is settled as £1 win treble.
  • Four selections nominated with bet instructions ‘£1 win treble’, total stake £1, is settled as £1 win fourfold.

ix. Where you write a horse or greyhound selection giving both name and number and the two do not correspond, the name will take precedence over the number.

x. Where your instructions are for a forecast single and there is only one selection written on your slip, it will be settled as a win single.

  • Where your instructions are for a forecast and the two selections are in different races, the bet will be settled as a win double if a straight forecast is requested and an each way double if a reverse forecast is requested.

13. Numbered Unnamed Selections where Time or Meeting is Missing or Incorrect

  • All bets on unnamed selections (i.e. favourites and numbered selections) must state the correct time and meeting otherwise the bet or affected part of the bet will be void. There are, however, the following exceptions:

a. Meeting and Time Given

i. Provided the nominated time for a horse or greyhound meeting falls within five minutes of the advertised race time, the bet will stand even though there may be other meetings with a race at that time.

ii. If not covered by the five minute rule above, SINGLE bets on horses and greyhounds, including selections in virtual races, where the time is incorrect or relates to another meeting, will be settled on the next race to go off at the meeting nominated or, provided there is only one race at that time, the race applicable to the stated race time, whichever is next to go off after the bet is placed.

  • Where the time corresponds with a race that has already been resolved the bet is settled on the next race to go off at the meeting nominated after the bet is placed unless the price laid signifies it is a late bet for the race timed, in which case the selection will be made void.
  • If not covered by the five minute rule above, in MULTIPLE bets which contain a selection(s) where the time and meeting do not correspond, the race time stated will be given precedence and the selection(s) will be settled on the meeting applicable to the race time.

b. Meeting Given - No Time

i. Single bets on horses, greyhounds or virtual, stand for the next race off at the meeting nominated.

c. Time Given - No Meeting

i. Bets stand for the race timed. Where the time of the race clashes with other races, horses, greyhounds or virtual having the same advertised race time and covered by a full service or special William Hill service the following order of priority will be applied to determine settlement: UK horse race, then Irish horse race, then UK or Irish greyhound race, then overseas horse race, then overseas greyhound race, then virtual race.

  • Where the time stated applies to two UK horse races (or two Irish horse races etc.) the stake will be divided between both meetings.
  • Where the time stated does not correspond with any race or corresponds with a race already resolved SINGLE BETS (including forecasts and Tricast) are settled on the next horse, greyhound or virtual race off that is covered by a full service.

ii. Where the MEETING IS OMITTED but the collective race times can only apply to one particular meeting, then the bet will stand for that meeting.

  • Where you use programme order or state ‘through the card’ greyhound bets will be settled on the first full greyhound meeting covered by a full service to start after the bet is placed, otherwise the bet will be void.

d. No Meeting – No Time

i. SINGLE BETS are settled on the next horse, greyhound or virtual race, covered by a full service that takes place after the bet is accepted.

ii. Where the word 'TRAP' or 'T' precedes a numbered selection, the bet is deemed to be for greyhound racing and will be settled on the next scheduled greyhound race in our live service to go off after the bet race time selected.

  • Example: Trap 4, 3.00 Lingfield is settled for the 3.02 greyhound race even if there is a 3.00 horse race.

iii. Where TWO GREYHOUND MEETINGS are held at the SAME TRACK on the SAME DAY, then the particular meeting for which the bet is intended must be clearly indicated.

  • Where it is not clearly indicated, and the staking does not indicate which meeting is intended, then the bet will be deemed to be for the first meeting at which all the selections are still to run.

iv. Where the MEETING IS OMMITTED on a Trap Challenge or Hot Box bet and no qualifying price has been laid bets will stand for the first one to take place after the bet has been accepted.

v. The term SINGLE BETS stated throughout this rule refers to a win or each way single, forecast single or a Tricast single.

  • In the case of Tricasts, allowances must be made for whether the race is a Tricast race.
  • The term BAGS stated throughout this rule refers to any greyhound meeting covered by a full service.

14. Settlement of Football/Sports/Special Events/Numbers Bets Written on Coupons/Special Bet Slips or Standard Betting Slips

a. Subject to Rule 12, settlement on coupons and standard betting slips will be at the price prevailing at the time the bet is placed and will govern settlement irrespective of the pre-printed odds shown on the coupons.

  • Odds offered online, mobile, in our telephone betting centre or on the SSBT may differ to those available over the counter.

b. Where a football bet has been placed on a coupon you must check your receipt in order to ensure all of your selections have been replicated on your receipt and that your stakes and instructions are correct.

  • Settlement will be based strictly on those selections that are printed on your receipt and any omitted from the original coupon will not count.
  • Example: If you select an eight-team accumulator and only seven selections appear on your receipt your bet will stand as a seven-team accumulator.
  • Likewise, any selections that have been added will stand, win or lose, regardless of whether they were initially intended by you.
  • The same criteria will also apply to numbers bets.

c. Where a team is scheduled to play two or more matches in the same week, bets on standard betting slips which do not nominate the date of the match or contain a qualifying price will be settled for the match in which the selection plays first.

d. All football bets must carry full staking instructions.

  • If you omit to stake any column then this column will be void unless provision has been made within the total amount of stake paid.
  • For settling purposes, permutations will be treated as one column.

e. Any football bets placed on standard betting slips will not qualify for the bonuses or consolations offered on special/section lists.

f. On standard betting slips where a customer has nominated a team to beat a different opponent to that scheduled, with the exception of mythical matches, the bet will stand for the selection's scheduled match.

  • Where a draw has been nominated with no qualifying price laid, the selection will be void and the bet settled on the remaining selections.

g. Where there is more than one competitor with the same surname and the selection has not been identified by either initial, first name, team where applicable, or qualifying price the competitor with the lowest advertised price will be taken as the selection.

  • In the event of one or more competitor(s) being quoted at the lowest advertised price the stake will be divided between them.
  • The same principle will apply where two teams have the same name.

h. The minimum odds/returns printed at the head of each coupon list are for guidance purposes only and settlement will always be at the current individual match odds quoted for each game.

  • Dates and kick-off times of matches printed on our coupon are for guidance purposes only.

i. Incomplete lines on the sections list of our coupons will stand and settlement will be based on the individual odds quoted for each selection.

j. In the event of a match being played on a neutral ground, the team printed on the left will be regarded as the home side, and the team printed on the right as the away side.

k. Where you have not indicated first goalscorer/last goalscorer, or to score at any time and where the odds issued do not determine the selection, in all cases it will be settled on the ‘first goalscorer’.

  • The same principle will apply where there is a doubt as to whether a first/last try scorer or touchdown scorer is intended.

l. Where the name of the winning team has been omitted, with no qualifying price laid, in all cases Scorecasts will stand for the selected first goalscorers team.

  • Example: A Scorecast Kane / 3-2, will be settled on Kane to score the first goal and England to win the match 3-2.

15. Competitions where the Scheduled Fixtures are not Fully Completed

a. The following rules will apply should the originally published scheduled fixtures in any league or competition not be completed due to any circumstances.

i. We will settle all bets based on the official result which is declared using any means deemed appropriate or sanctioned by the governing body.
ii. If all final league placings are declared, all bets will stand and be settled according to the official result.
iii. If a partial result is declared, such as appointing the champions or only confirming promotion and relegation, then all markets which can be fully settled according to these placings will be settled and all other bets which cannot be settled will be made void.
iv. If no official result is declared, or if the league/competition is declared null and void with results expunged, then all bets will be made void.

b. Individual teams not completing scheduled fixtures.

i. Should any individual team fail to fulfil their fixtures (due to but not exclusive to financial issues etc), bets placed on them in any market where a result has not already been established will be void.
ii. All bets placed on other participating teams' outright markets will stand and will be settled according to the official final finishing positions.
iii. Match bets involving a team that withdraws from the league without fulfilling their fixtures will be made void.
iv. Bets on all scheduled games which are not completed will be made void.
v. Any special bet or #YourOdds bet involving a team that has withdrawn from the league and failed to fulfil their fixtures will be made void, unless a result for that part of the bet has been established.

16. Enhanced Specials

a. Where we offer a special accumulative price on the outcome of multiple events and this is affected by non-participants (such as an abandoned football match, golfer withdrawing prior to teeing off, player not participating in a football game etc) then the whole bet will be voided, irrespective of the success or otherwise of all the remaining selections.

b. The only exceptions to the above rule are as follows:

i. Where a market is offered on favourite performance and winning distances, this will be settled in accordance with UK and Irish Horse Racing rules 13 and 14.
ii. Any other advertised exception listed on the screen, banner or coupon for the offer market.

17. #YourOdds

a. #YourOdds bets are requested by individual customers and a selection of them are available on the SSBT terminal in our shops.

  • If a #YourOdds bet relates to an existing market on our website, rules for that market will apply.
  • Settlement of other markets will be determined by the terms and conditions listed in the #YourOdds section of the rules displayed online.

b. Where a market is offered for a combined set of results, and this is affected by non-participants bets will be settled in accordance with section 6 rule 16.

c. For Build #YourOdds betting please see section 13 rule 17.

7. UK AND IRISH HORSE RACING

1. Bet Acceptance and Settlement

a. Bets are accepted for horse race meetings held under the rules of the BHA (British Horseracing Authority) and HRI (Horse Racing Ireland).

  • In the case of an emergency, the stewards may alter the original distance of the race or allow the result to stand when the runners have taken the wrong course.
  • In each of these instances, bets will stand and be settled on the official result.
  • Bets on horse racing are settled on the official result.

b. Where a result is amended after the weigh-in, for example, as the result of a successful appeal, the amendment will be ignored for settlement purposes.

c. All bets are deemed to be for races taking place on the day of acceptance unless you stipulate otherwise in your instructions.

  • However, allowances will be made where racecards are printed in advance such as Sunday’s racecards printed on a Saturday.

d. With the exception of Tote bets unless a price is requested, all bets on UK and Irish horse racing are settled at starting price returns.

  • The starting price (SP) is the price available at the “off” of the race.
  • Where a William Hill SP is returned this will take precedence over any other declared SP and will be used to settle bets where no price is requested.
  • Where no SP is returned and no price is requested, settlement of bets will be based on the final show of betting transmitted by our service provider.
  • Where no betting shows are transmitted, bets will be settled at Tote odds.

e. Should a horse be withdrawn from a race after coming under starter’s orders, bets placed on that horse will have lost as the horse will be deemed to have taken part in the race.

2. William Hill Prices

a. William Hill prices are offered on horse racing until the off of each race.

  • Prices offered online or on the self-service terminal may differ from those offered over the counter.

b. Prices for all races and events are subject to fluctuation.

c. If you wish to bet at William Hill prices, you must stipulate this when placing your bet.

d. Should a horse be withdrawn, resulting in a deduction under Tattersalls’ Rule 4, then for bets other than early bird, no show price can be laid after the time of withdrawal, unless the market has been re-formed.

e. Each way bets at William Hill prices are governed by our SP place betting terms and determined by the number of actual starters, and not by the number of the declared runners when the price is laid.

f. Where you take a price on a selection, it will apply to that selection in all win and each way bets throughout your bet.

g. Should a horse be withdrawn without coming under starters orders in an early price race, stakes on that selection will be returned, with bets on other runners in the race subject to a deduction in accordance with Tattersalls’ Rule 4, based on the price at the time of withdrawal.

  • However, if the market has been re-formed because of an earlier non-runner then the deduction for bets placed in the original market will be based on the last price quoted for the non-runner in that market.
  • Bets on horse race events placed after the final declaration stage are not ante post and will be settled in accordance with these rules.

h. Where a price is taken on a horse race with reserve runners bets will be settled on the result “without the reserve runner(s),” unless an early price is available for the reserve runner(s), in which case bets will be settled on the official result.

  • Placings on the result “without reserve runner(s)” will be determined by the number of runners, excluding reserves that start the race.

3. Each Way betting

a. An each way bet consists of two stakes, one for the win part of the bet and one for the place part.

  • If your selection finishes first, both the win and place bet is successful.

b. Bets are settled to win unless each way is clearly stated.

  • With the exception of Tote place singles, unless specifically advertised place only bets are not accepted, and any taken in error will be void.
  • The place part of each way bets on horse racing is settled as per the following Industry Standard place terms unless special William Hill place terms are available at the time the bet is struck, in which case these will supersede the Industry Standard place terms.
  • Any bet placed prior to the introduction of special William Hill place terms will be settled on the place terms advertised at the time the bet was struck.

c. Where there are an insufficient number of finishers for the place terms advertised, only those runners officially placed will be treated as successful selections and bets on non-finishers will have lost.

d. For the purpose of calculation, each way doubles, trebles, etc. are settled as two distinct bets, i.e., win on to win and place on to place.

  • Horse racing bets will be settled as equally divided if this is clearly included in the instructions.
  • An equally divided bet is where the total return from the first leg of the bet is divided into two equal parts and then invested as a win and place stake on the next leg.
  • Equally divided bets are not available online.

e. If you place a bet each way for a race or event that is win only, the total stake will be invested for a win.

f. With the exception of ante post bets, in the event of non-runner(s) SP place terms will apply.

4. Favourite Betting

a. The favourite is the horse that is returned at the shortest odds.

  • Bets nominating the favourite are accepted on horse races at starting price only.
  • Where a bet is placed on an unnamed favourite in a race where no starting prices are returned, please refer to Rule 1d.

b. Where you nominate the favourite and two or more runners start at the shortest odds, then your stake is divided equally over the joint or co-favourites created.

  • Example: Where two are returned at the shortest odds, then these two are joint first and second favourites and the next shortest price runner is the third favourite.

c. Stakes will be returned on single favourite bets where the return, regardless of the result, is either the same or less than the original outlay.

  • Example: EVS joint favourites, 3/1 co-favourites of four etc.
  • Where this situation occurs with joint or co-favourites in an accumulative bet, the selection will be treated as a non-runner.

d. Win and each way bets for first and second favourites are accepted on horse racing.

e. Where a horse is withdrawn not under starter’s orders but is still returned favourite, then bets on that favourite are void.

  • Bets will not transfer to the second favourite.

5. Forecast Betting

a. A forecast requires you to pick the first and second in the correct order.

b. Bets are settled as straight forecasts in accordance with the computerised starting price forecast returns.

c. Forecasts inadvertently accepted in RACES WITH ONLY 2 RUNNERS, will be settled as a win single on the selection nominated to finish 1st.

d. In races where a horse finishes alone, all forecast bets nominating that horse to finish 1st will be settled as a win single at starting price.

  • All other forecast bets in the race are lost.

e. Should a non-runner be selected in a forecast, the bet will be settled as a win single on the remaining selection.

  • In reversed or combination bets, each forecast is treated separately.

6. Straight Tricast Betting

a. A straight tricast requires you to pick the first, second and third in the correct order.

b. Tricasts are accepted on races of six or more runners, unless indicated otherwise.

c. Bets will be settled at the official tricast dividend.

d. If one of the selected horses is withdrawn from the race at any time, bets will be settled as a straight forecast on the remaining horses.

  • If two of the selected horses are withdrawn, the bet will be settled as a single on the remaining horse and if all 3 are withdrawn the bet will be made void.

e. If one of more withdrawn horses reduce the number of runners in the given race to five or fewer, bets on this market will be settled as a forecast on the selections nominated to finish first and second.

f. If there is a dead heat for first, second or third place, a separate dividend will be declared for each winning tricast combination.

g. If only two runners finish the given race, bets on this market will be settled as a forecast on the selections nominated to finish first and second. All other tricast bets will have lost.

  • If only one runner finishes the given race, bets on this market will be settled as an SP win single on the selection nominated to finish first. All other tricast bets will have lost.

7. Combination Tricast Betting

a. A combination tricast requires you to predict three or more horses to finish first, second and third in any order.

b. Combination tricasts are accepted on races of six or more runners, unless indicated otherwise.

c. Bets will be settled at the official tricast dividend.

d. Combination tricast bets are made up of equal stakes to cover the number of possible outcomes, meaning that a £2 combination tricast on three runners has a total stake of £12.

3 selections 6 bets
4 selections 24 bets
5 selections 60 bets
6 selections 120 bets

 e. If one or more of the selected horses is withdrawn from the race at any time, and at least three selections remain, bets placed on this market will be broken down into separate bets being settled as separate tricasts and forecasts.

  • If only two selections remain, bets on this market will be broken down into separate bets being settled as separate forecasts and SP win singles.
  • If all selected horses are withdrawn from the race, bets on this market will be void.

f. If one of more withdrawn horses reduce the number of runners in the given race to five or fewer, bets on this market will be settled as a combination forecast.

  • If the selection runs in the other race, it will be treated as a non-runner.
  • The same principle will also apply when a horse, greyhound or virtual runner have identical names.
  • If the bet is not timed and no qualifying price has been laid, the bet will be settled in the following order of priority: UK horse race, then Irish horse race, then greyhound race, then overseas horse race, then virtual race.

9. Re-Runs

  • In the event of a false start etc. resulting in a race being re-run, 'under orders' is negated and stakes will be refunded on horses taking no part in the re-run, with returns on the remaining runners subject to Tattersalls’ Rule 4.
  • Place terms are governed by the number of runners taking part in the re-run.
  • Where a horse is ineligible to start in a re-started race, e.g., already fallen before the incident to start the race occurred, the stakes on this selection will be lost.
  • On occasion, the stewards may re-start a race at a point of their choosing and if this happens bets still stand.

ii. An ante post bet will stand under the following circumstances:

  • The race is run on a different date from the one originally specified, but at the original venue.

  • Bets will be settled in accordance with the official result provided by PA or SIS and any subsequent amendments will be ignored for settlement purposes.

b. Unless a price is requested, all bets on greyhound racing are settled at starting price returns.

  • The starting price (SP) is the price available at the “off” of the race.
  • Where a William Hill SP is returned this will take precedence over any other declared SP and will be used to settle bets where no price is requested.
  • Where no SP is returned, and no price is requested settlement of bets will be based on the final show of betting transmitted by our service provider.
  • Where no betting shows are transmitted, greyhound bets will be void.

c. Bets on greyhound racing are accepted on either trap numbers or on named greyhounds.

  • If a greyhound is withdrawn from a race and replaced by a reserve, bets on that trap number will stand, and bets placed on the named greyhound will be void.
  • The exception to this rule is where a price is taken on a numbered selection, in this instance bets for the non-runner will be void as the price will be deemed to dictate a specific greyhound was intended.

d. Bets placed on trap numbers for Australian greyhounds are settled on the trap that the greyhound starts the race from, not the number that it wears during the race.

  • This is because a reserve greyhound will wear either number 9 or 10 regardless of which trap it runs from.

e. If a race is abandoned or declared void, bets placed on greyhounds in that race will be declared void.

2. William Hill Prices

a. William Hill prices are offered on greyhound racing until the off of each race.

  • Prices offered online or on the self-service betting terminal may differ from those offered over the counter.

b. Prices for all races and events are subject to fluctuation.

c. If you wish to bet at William Hill prices, you must stipulate this when placing your bet.

e. Where you take a price on a selection, it will apply to that selection in all win and each way bets throughout your bet.

f. Should a greyhound be withdrawn, all bets nominating that selection by name or trap number will be void if a price is taken.

WIN ONLY
5-7 runners
1/4 odds, 1-2
8+ runners
1/5 odds, 1-3

b. Where there are an insufficient number of finishers for the place terms advertised, only those runners officially placed will be treated as successful selections and bets on non-finishers will be lost.

c. For the purpose of calculation, each way doubles, trebles, etc. are settled as two distinct bets, i.e., win on to win and place on to place.

  • Greyhound Racing bets will be settled as equally divided if this is clearly included in the instructions.
  • An equally divided bet is where the total return from the first leg of the bet is divided into two equal parts and then invested as a win and place stake on the next leg.
  • Equally divided bets are not available online.

d. If you place a bet each way for a race or event that is win only, the total stake will be invested for a win.

4. Favourite Betting

  • The favourite is the greyhound that is returned at the shortest odds.
  • Bets nominating the favourite are accepted on greyhound races at starting price only.
  • Where you nominate the favourite and two or more runners start at the shortest odds, then your stake is divided equally over the joint or co-favourites created.
  • Example: Where two are returned at the shortest odds, then these two are joint first and second favourites and the next shortest price runner is the third favourite.
  • Stakes will be returned on single favourite bets where the return, regardless of the result, is either the same or less than the original outlay.
  • Example: EVS joint favourites, 3/1 co-favourite of four etc. Where this situation occurs with joint or co-favourites in an accumulative bet the selection will be treated as a non-runner.
  • We accept greyhound bets for the first favourites only.
  • Unnamed second and third favourites are not accepted and where taken in error such bets will be made void.

  • ¾ length = 0.75 lengths
  • Bets are accepted for Greyhound racing held under the rules BAGS, GBGB and IGB and are settled on the official result.
  • Bets are accepted at the advertised special price. All odds are subject to fluctuation and bets placed will be settled at the price the time the bet was confirmed.
  • The officially declared winning distance is calculated between the first two greyhounds past the post that have completed the race having followed the correct course.
  • The maximum winning distance per race is 10 lengths.
  • Void races will be awarded 2 lengths.

  • If three or more races are abandoned or made void at the selected meeting and the over selection in the market has not been won bets placed on this market will be void.
  • Adjustments to settlement will not be made for amended results or adjudications made by governing bodies after the weigh-in when the official result is declared.

6. Forecast Betting

Market description: A forecast requires you to pick the first and second in the correct order.

  • Bets are settled as straight forecasts in accordance with the computerised starting price forecast returns.
  • Should a non-runner be selected in a forecast, the bet will be settled as a win single on the remaining selection.
  • In reversed or combination bets, each forecast is treated separately.

7. Straight Tricast Betting

Market description: A straight tricast requires you to pick the first, second and third in the correct order.

  • If one of more withdrawn greyhounds reduce the number of runners in the given race to five or fewer, bets on this market will be settled as a forecast on the selections nominated to finish first and second.
  • If there is a dead heat for first, second or third place, a separate dividend will be declared for each winning tricast combination.
  • If only two runners finish the given race, bets on this market will be settled as a forecast on the selections nominated to finish first and second. All other tricast bets will have lost.
  • If only one runner finishes the given race, bets on this market will be settled as an SP win single on the selection nominated to finish first. All other tricast bets will have lost.

8. Combination Tricast Betting

Market description: A combination tricast requires you to predict three or more greyhounds to finish first, second and third in any order.

  • Combination tricasts are accepted on races of six or more runners, unless indicated otherwise.
  • Bets will be settled at the official tricast dividend.
  • Combination tricast bets are made up of equal stakes to cover the number of possible outcomes, meaning that a £2 combination tricast on three runners has a total stake of £12.
  • 3 selections: 6 bets
  • 4 selections: 24 bets
  • 5 selections: 60 bets
  • 6 selections: 120 bets
  • If one or more of the selected greyhounds is withdrawn from the race at any time, and at least three selections remain, bets placed on this market will be broken down into separate bets being settled as separate tricasts and forecasts.
  • If only two selections remain, bets on this market will be broken down into separate bets being settled as separate forecasts and SP win singles.
  • If all selected greyhounds are withdrawn from the race, bets on this market will be void.
  • If one of more withdrawn greyhounds reduce the number of runners in the given race to five or fewer, bets on this market will be settled as a combination forecast.
  • If there is a dead heat for first, second or third place, a separate dividend will be declared for each winning tricast combination.
  • If only two runners finish the given race, bets on this market will be settled as a forecast on the selections nominated to finish first and second in each tricast combination.
  • All tricast combinations that do not nominate the greyhounds finishing first and second in the correct order will have lost.

  • Bets may be cancelled by mutual agreement prior to the market being re-formed.
  • A re-run greyhound race is taken in the order in which it was originally placed in the programme, irrespective of the time at which it was re-run.

b. Dates and kick off times of matches shown on our coupons, terminals and website are for guidance purposes only.

c. Whilst every effort is made to ensure live scoreboards on our terminals and website are accurate, information (such as time of match and score) is intended as a guide only and we assume no liability if the information is incorrect.

d. If an accumulator or multiple bet is reduced by void selections, the bet will still stand on the remaining selections.

  • A six-fold will be reduced to a five-fold; a five-fold will be reduced to a four-fold etc.

e. Settlement of all stats markets will be based on data provided by OPTA (Part of the Stats Perform Group) where covered. Where OPTA do not cover a match, bets are settled using our alternative feed providers.

  • As this is a subscription service, we will provide the data supplied to us upon request.
  • OPTA may occasionally make amendments to their data to ensure accuracy. We will settle markets based on their final decision.
  • Adjustments to the settlement of markets won’t be made for changes or adjudications made by governing bodies after the event.
  • OPTA have a long-established list of ‘Event Definitions’ which are adhered to across all of their data collection centres. They can be accessed at www.statsperform.com/opta-event-definitions.

4. Abandoned Matches

Description: An abandonment is deemed to be where a match has been unable to play to completion and play halted, and not played out to conclusion on the same day.

  • An abandoned match can occur for a variety of reasons (though not exclusively); inclement weather and conditions, security/policing, power failures, crowd trouble etc.
  • In the instance where a match is deemed to have been abandoned, the following principles will be applied in settling bets:
  • If a winning selection in a specific market has been established before the abandonment of the match, bets will stand, and settlement will occur as expected.
  • If a winning selection for a specific market has not been established at the time of abandonment, all bets will be settled as void.
  • A match that is interrupted (e.g. inclement weather), but then plays to a conclusion on the same day will not be deemed as an abandonment and all bets will be settled on the outcome at the end of the match.
  • In the case of an abandonment, any subsequent replays/completions, award of the match result by governing bodies or pools panel decisions will not count toward settlement.

5. Change of Venue/Opponents

  • Where there are no clear instructions on the slip as to which market was intended, but a price has been laid and clearly indicated, the bet will be settled on the market on which the price was available.

7. Goal or Match Stats Disputes

  • Where a market is offered in a match for corners, free kicks, goal kicks, throw-ins etc if they are awarded but not taken, they will not count.
  • However, where the market is offered for a specified time period i.e. 5 minutes corners, free kicks, goal kicks, throw-ins etc that are awarded but not taken will count.
  • Bets of this nature will be settled on the stats available to us, in line with rule 13.1e above.

8. Player Performance Markets

  • For bets on a named player to record an assist, complete a number of passes, shots etc these markets will be tracked and sourced in line with rule 1e above.
  • Where a market is offered in a match for shots on target, a shot on target is defined as being any goal attempt that resulted in a goal being scored or would have resulted in a goal being scored but was stopped by a goalkeeper’s save or by a defender who is the last player.
  • Shots hitting the frame of the goal (unless the ball goes in and is awarded as a goal), shots blocked by another player who is not the last man and long passes or crosses (even if dealt with by the goalkeeper) will not count as a shot on target.

  • Bets on caretaker/interim managers will be declared winners for betting purposes if they are in charge for 10 or more consecutive competitive matches.

11. Club & International Friendlies

  • When we display friendly matches, we will not necessarily indicate a home and away team.
  • All bets will stand regardless of the venue at which the match is played.
  • In friendly matches, if the match is scheduled for 90 minutes but is completed early due to the referee's discretion, all bets will stand on the final result.
  • This doesn't include abandonments, which will be treated as normal.

12. Handicap Betting

  • Where there is any doubt as to whether ‘traditional’ handicap betting or “Asian” handicap betting is intended the bet will be settled as a traditional handicap bet.

13. VAR (Video Assisted Referee)

  • In the event of a VAR review, for settlement purposes the final outcome of said review will be used to determine settlement of all markets.
    • Should a penalty be retaken after a VAR review, for settlement purposes the first penalty is deemed irrelevant.
    • Settlement will occur on the final penalty taken in that period of play.
  • Any action occurring during a period of play which is deemed not to be part of the game due to a VAR review bringing back play (such as shots on target, throw ins, corners, offsides etc) will not count.
    • The exception to this rule is yellow and red cards which will still stand if shown during this time and counted in the final match.

  • For settlement purposes, a VAR review will be confirmed when a referee makes the VAR gesture (outline of a TV screen in the air) and then either changes or confirms the on-field decision.

14. Duplicate Names

  • If there is more than one team or player with the same name and the selection has not been identified by either first name, team or qualifying price, the competitor with the lowest advertise price will be taken as the selection.

  • Unless specified as ‘taken’ in the market description events will be settled on the time the event is awarded not when it is taken.
  • For settlement purposes, corners and throw-ins will be settled on the time the ball crosses the line and not when the whistle is blown by the match official.

16. Fair Play Award

  • On occasion William Hill may make a Fair Play Award or Justice Refund.
  • This is where we may pay out or void markets that have been settled as losers in line with these Fair Deal Rules as a goodwill gesture.
  • These payments will be on specified markets and by doing so we do not accept any liability to pay out on other related markets, or any similar scenarios that may take place in other games.
  • Example: Should Harry Kane score the first goal in a game, but have it ruled out by VAR due to a tight offside, we may decide to issue a Fair Play Award on any bets on Harry Kane in the First Goalscorer market.
  • In this case, unless otherwise specified, bets on related markets such as anytime scorer, scorecasts, shots on target, total match goals etc will be settled in line with rule 13.1e.

17. Build #YourOdds

  • Build Your Odds is a new feature available for selected football matches, which enables you to build your own multiple bets from selected markets within that event.
  • This is available through our Self-Service Betting Terminals.
  • If any leg of the Build Your Odds bet relates to an existing market, then rules for that market will apply.
  • If any leg of the Build #YourOdds bet is void, then the whole bet will be voided, irrespective of the success or otherwise of all the remaining selections.
  • You can add a maximum of 6 selections, subject to the maximum combined odds of 10,000/1 – so if you exceed these odds with less than 6 selections you will not be able to add any more.
