SETTLEMENT EXPLAINED

Unsure about a settlement rule? No problem! We have you covered with easy explanations on how the most common settlement rules work!

If you can’t find an answer that you’re looking for, check our FULL LIST of horse rules.

What is it?
Any type of bet placed before the actual start of a race.
There’s a 24-48 hour limit before the off to be considered as ante-post.

How it works?
Your bet will be refunded when your horse is officially announced as “BALLOTED OUT.”
Kindly check our official list of BALLOTED OUT HORSES.
Any other reason/s means a losing bet.
What is it?
Non-RunnerA horse that’s declared to run but trainer and/or owner decided to withdraw it from the race.
Balloted Out = As a safety measure, racing officials limit the number of horses allowed to race. If the total number of horses exceed the maximum field size, then they will be balloted out even if they were originally declared to run.

How it works?
Non-Runner
a. Single bet = It will be refunded to you.
b. Accumulator/Multiple bet = Bet will be settled but without the non-runner.

Balloted Out = All bets will be made void including ante-post. Check our official list of BALLOTED OUT HORSES.
What is it?
A dead heat simply means a tie.

How it works?
When it happens, we divide your original bet by the number of horses which tied for a specific place.

This is how we CALCULATE YOUR RETURNS.
What is it?
Refers to the price adjustment done to your winnings. It is an industry wide rule to balance the stakes.

How it works?
When your horse is withdrawn after the final declaration of runners, a small percentage will be deducted for every £1 of winnings, because the remaining horses now have a higher chance of winning.

This is how we ADJUST YOUR RETURNS.

What is it?
Any horse that crosses the finish line first qualifies for first past the post.

How it works?
Any demoted or disqualified horse/s after a steward’s enquiry won’t apply for first past the post. The newly declared winner of the race will be the official winner.

NOTE: In some cases, where the decision seems too unfair we use the power of our FAIR PLAY rules.
What is it?
Extra Places is an additonal place we offer on a particular race.

How it works?
For example, we initially offered to pay 3 places on RACE K, now we're paying 4 places; the move from 3 to 4 places is the extra place.

Does your NRMB bet qualify for extra places?
No, because all non-runner money back (NRMB) are considered ante-post bets. This means that your bet only qualifies for the standard each-way places offered.

For more information, check our Extra Places FAQ.

CHELTIONARY

Horse racing jargon can get a bit tricky to understand. Here are some key terms you should know to help you stay ahead when betting.

  • Each Way (E/W) – Picking each way means that half of your bet will be on the horse to win, and the other half will be on the horse to place. The place varies depending on the number of horses in the race. For example, we offer 1/5 each way odds at a specific race. If your horse places, then we’ll also pay half of your bet at 1/5 odds.
  • Abandoned - Abandonment happens when a race is cancelled usually due to bad weather. If you have a single bet on race that has been abandoned, your bet will be counted as void.
  • Distance -  Refers to the official distance between the winning horse and the second-placed horse. There are different lengths considered to win, the shortest winning margin is called "Nose" while the longest is "1 Length." This is how we calculate OFFICIAL WINNING DISTANCES.
  • Disqualified - A horse may be disqualifed due to interference. If a horse drifts or swerves out of its lane and interferes with another horse it could be considered a foul and be a case for disqualification. When a you bet on a disqualified horse, you lose the best.
  • Outright Race Winner - A horse or rider which finishes at the top of a specific race or the whole circuit.
  • Accumulator – Commonly known as “Acca,” it’s a bet placed on four (4) or more horses to win a race. All 4 horses must win to win the bet.
  • Forecast – A bet where you need to predict both the winner and the one who comes second in a race. There are different types of forecasts:

Straight – Predict the winner and the runner-up in CORRECT ORDER

Reverse – Predict who wins in first and second in ANY ORDER

Combination - Predict who wins first and second in ANY ORDER using THREE TO SIX SELECTIONS
